Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes late Monday in southern California after a forest fire spread over more than 10,000 acres.
The fire, exacerbated by strong winds and bad weather, caused one death, the destruction of two buildings and the power outages of more than 190,000 people in the neighboring provinces of Ventura and Santa Barbara.
Authorities have ordered 650 residents in Ventura to leave their homes early Tuesday morning, as well as evacuate a school while the authorities are trying to control the fire moving south-west toward the coast.
The fire, which was not yet known, started east of the city of Santa Paola on Monday night on an area of only 50 acres, reaching 10,000 acres within four hours.
California, which recently suffered devastating forest fires, has asked the federal government for $ 7.4 billion to help relief efforts in areas hit by the fires in October.
