It announced the Association of Italian league football, on Monday, that the company "Mediabro" Spanish got the right of local transport for the Italian league matches from 2018 until 2021, compared with 1.05 billion euros a year ($ 1.3 billion).
"The offer of 1,050,001,000 euros is higher than the minimum required for the tender," the Italian league said in a statement. Mediapro gave preference to the traditional carriers of the Italian league Sky and Mediaset.
The announcement of the sale of domestic transport rights to the Italian league matches for Mediapro, after the league rejected the offer of Sky and Mediaset at the end of January, considering that the total amount of supply of 830 million euros is not enough.
The two groups are currently involved in the local transport of Serie A matches and pay 945 million euros annually for the period from 2015 to 2018.
The Italian league has demanded at least € 1.05 billion a year in the new contract, which Mediabro has won, adding a minimum of € 1,000 and winning the right to transfer the league to Italy until 2021.
As for the international transport rights of the Serie A games, in October they went to AMG and Rai, for a total of 371 million euros a year until 2021, twice the previous value.
According to an adviser to the Italian league, the offer by Mediapro, which also owns the rights of the Spanish league, may be linked to a project to create a new television channel in association with the league itself.
The value of the new deal is not much different from that of Germany (1.16 billion euros a year) and Spain (1 billion euros), compared with 726 million euros in France. But it is still far from the television transport revenues in the Premier League which total annual under the new contract 1.95 billion euros.
In a statement issued by its lawyers, Sky said the Mediapro offer was "unacceptable" and called for a halt to negotiations with the Spanish group.
